Myth busting Single-Payer

As is customary for every administration in recent history, the Trump administration chose to impale itself on the national spear known as healthcare in America. The consequences so far are precisely as I expected, but one intriguing phenomenon is surprisingly beginning to emerge. People are starting to talk about single payer. People who are not avowed socialists, people who benefit handsomely from the healthcare status quo seem to feel a need to address this four-hundred-pound gorilla, sitting patiently in a corner of our healthcare situation room. Why?

Single payer is the American way??  I’m the first to admit that as a nation Socialism has seeped into American society with programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid (both single payer), food stamps (SNAP) along with a huge bevy of corporate subsidies.  Doctor Margalit Gur-Aire advocates Medicare for everyone?  Adding another socialist program that extents from cradle to grave will go down in history as America’s beginning of its end as a free and prosperous nation. 

  

Those who own the gold – the federal government political elite – make the rules.  With this much power corruption will surely follow just as the sun rises in the east and falls in the west.  With this fore knowledge is some other agenda at play?  Margalit Gur-Aire, MD real agenda is to continue the money train of collusion to price fix and the formation of monopolies that has moved from local to now regional areas of the country.    Health care costs are flying upward at a breakneck speed of 9% to 10% per annum – price fixing and monopolies – using the rule of 72’s prices will double within 7 to 8 years.  Currently health care costs an outrageous 20% of our economy that will easily soar to 40% less than a decade from now.  This is why the push for single payer as the average citizen is unable to pay the ever escalating premium payments.  Simply put the Medical Industrial Complex has reduced their paying customers inversely to their ever escalating price.

The real solution Dr. Gur-Aire is free markets, not your socialist scam, reducing rules and regulations AND applying 100 plus year old laws – Robinson-Patman Act, Clayton Act and the granddaddy Sherman Anti-Trust Act creating openness of prices forcing massive competition driving down prices by 75%.  That is not a typo – 75%!  The sheer competition for patients will INCREASE quality!  How?  The magic of highly competitive markets forces all of the players to be on their A game.  Simple as that!
