Tennessee Takes Another Step Toward Restoring Gun Rights
On May 9, Governor Bill Haslam signed the Tennessee Hearing Protection Act into law. The bill legalizes the manufacture and possession of firearm suppressors (known inaccurately as “silencers”) in the Volunteer State.
DYI:
The so called silencer is not anything displayed in the movies as the
bad guy fires his automatic and all you hear is “phew.” Suppressors do drop the decibels enough to mitigate
hearing loss – despite hearing protection – for active shooters. Tennessee’s legislation is correctly titled
Hearing Protection Act. I noticed
pictures of Putin’s Mayday military parade Russian soldiers all had suppressors
built in to their assault rifles.
Once a
fire fight ensues directing soldiers becomes almost impossible under the best
of conditions reducing hearing loss due do rifle fire is a step in the right
direction. The U.S. Army should adopt suppressors
as well.
About two years ago, Governor Haslam signed into law HB 1110, a statute blocking state agencies and employees from enforcing federal acts aimed at unconstitutionally infringing on the right to keep and bear arms as protected by the U.S. and Tennessee constitutions.
Specifically, the 2015 law prohibits state or local public funds, personnel, or resources from being used for the “implementation, regulation, or enforcement of any federal law, executive order, rule or regulation regulating the ownership, use, or possession of firearms, ammunition, or firearm accessories” if such participation would “result in the violation of Tennessee statutory or common law or the Constitution of Tennessee.”
This constitutionally sound strategy is known as anti-commandeering.
Put simply, anti-commandeering prohibits the federal government from forcing states to participate in any federal program that does not concern “international and interstate matters.”
Texas Bill Creates Committee to Identify, Nullify Unconstitutional Federal Acts
A bill is working its way through the Texas state legislature that would create a way for Lone Star State lawmakers to refuse to cooperate or enforce any act of the federal government that exceeds its constitutional authority.
The Texas Sovereignty Act — HB 2338 — has already been approved by the state House of Representatives Select Committee on State and Federal Power and Responsibility by a vote of 5-2 and will now continue on through the long legislative process, with the goal of restoring the sovereignty of the state and forcing the federal beast back inside its constitutional cage.
DYI:
The drive for freedom will occur not from the top down –the Fed’s – but from
the States exerting their constitutional sovereign rights. A fancy way of telling the Fed’s to “butt out.” The action is in the States and most are
moving in a strict constitutional direction except for the land of fruits and
nuts California. At least 49 out of 50
are good odds for freedom and prosperity.
